Travelex
Flight Insure Plus
My trip was canceled 90 minutes prior to departure due to my host coming down with COVID that morning. I called to let Travelex know before my scheduled departure time. Your cancellation period, which makes sense for *discretionary* cancellations, where a customer simply changes their mind, end 24 hours prior to departure.
I was informed that there is no provision for refund outside that window in the event of a cancelled trip, for illness or any other reason. So even though you provided no services you are keeping my money. Unbelievable. You incurred absolutely no loss or inconvenience, but are retaining funds. Meanwhile Delta, who actually suffered inconvenience and possible revenue loss due to last-minute cancellation, refunded me through a button in their app.
The rep indicated that a credit would be issued for a future trip, which I suppose keeps this arbitrarily customer-hostile policy legal. But I have to submit for it, await response, track whether that arrives or not, track it so I remember it for future trips, etc. So between these two possible outcomes:
1) You refund me, I buy a new policy next time I fly so the money comes back to you for that trip, and I continue to be a Travelex customer for the foreseeable future.
2) You retain my funds and best case, I get the voucher and remember to use it, making this the same financial outcome as 1) (minus interest on my funds), BUT, I never use Travelex again, and relate this story to anyone who will listen forever encouraging them to make any other choice.
…You have decided the second one works best for you. Go figure.
Ronald M. would not
recommend this plan to a friend or relative.

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company (“BHSIC”) is the underwriter and claim administrator for the policy you purchased. Travelex Insurance Services does not make claim determinations. It is important to remember that insurance is highly regulated, and all claims are determined based on the required documentation submitted and the policy details for the policy you purchased.
I’ve listed the policy’s Effective and Termination Dates, and the definition of Trip which may help provide clarity as to why your claim was denied.
The policy ends on the earliest of:
(a) the date the Trip is completed;
(b) the scheduled Return Date;
(c) the Insured’s arrival at the Return Destination on a round Trip, or the Destination on a one-way Trip; or (d) cancellation of the Insured’s Trip.
“Trip” means a period of travel away from home to a Destination outside the Insured’s City of residence and;
the purpose of the Trip is business or pleasure and is not to obtain health care or treatment of any kin
the Trip has defined Departure and Return Dates supported by Travel Documents prior to the time of departure;
the Trip does not exceed the Maximum Trip Length Allowed listed in the Schedule; (d) and travel is primarily by personal automobile or Common Carrier.
We have escalated your concerns to BHSIC, should you have additional documentation you think could support your policy, you are welcome to appeal the claim decision directly, please contact BHSIC at 855.205.6054 option 2, Monday - Friday: 7:00 am-7:00pm CT, or by email at [email protected].
