C&F Travel Insured International
Worldwide Trip Protector
Unfortunately, several medical bills were incurred during my trip - some partially covered by my personal medical insurance, some not covered at all. My background doing large scale project management at various Fortune 500 companies, so I'm familiar with filling out and tracking forms.
Here are the reasons why I do would not recommend C&F Travel Insured:
1) Their PDF claims forms are not possible to fill out entirely on a computer unless you have Adobe Acrobat Pro or some other PDF editor. This is because some of the fields on their PDF forms are not editable.
2) Their website only allows you to enter 1 medical claim per traveler. There's no directions on what to do if you have multiple medical claims. If you call, you find out you have to email additional claims to them.
3) On top of that, their website for filing claims is not very or easy to use. Think early 2000's, with lots of download and uploads. You'll be entering the same information over and over again between the website and PDF.
4) I submitted additional claims via email in May. In June, I called and the rep couldn't find my additional claim. I asked her to look again, and then she found them. She told me to call back in 6+ weeks. I called back in August, and they couldn't find my additional claim, and that they would call me back. Could they email me given all the junk calls I get per day? No. This is their workflow in 2023.
Sometimes, I wonder if their website and PDF forms are intentionally full of friction to discourage you from filing a claim, or because they just don't invest in the claims workflows, or if it is something else -- I don't know.
Some closing thoughts:
1) If you have just one medical claim, filling out their forms isn't the worst and you'll get paid pretty quickly.
2) I haven't tried filing claims for other travel insurance companies, so I'm not sure if they are better or worse.
Here's to hoping my additional claims get paid!
