I filed multiple claims with extensive documentation. They chose to barely communicate with me. Every time I called them on the phone they said they prefer to do communication via postal mail (letters). It took an extremely long time to get any information or decision from them. They generally refused to respond to emails and their phone representatives don't have much information or resources available to them.
In the end they denied most of my claims without reason. They did pay out one of my claims eventually, but they did not notify me about it via email. I just noticed a wire transfer from them my bank statement and contacted them about it and they confirmed it was them. I didn't bother to continue appealing for my denied claims because they take so long to respond and I have better things to do.
Due to very poor communication and customer service, I would not recommend them.

Thank you for your review. We are very sorry to learn of your recent experience. We have shared your review with Tokio Marine HCC to review and to investigate further to ensure this does not happen again. Please call us, InsureMyTrip, at 800-487-4722 if you have any questions or concerns and we would be happy to address them.
Thank you for your review. In the US you may present your medical identification card to your physician or other health provider who would require minimal, if any, payment up front. However, travel medical insurance is different. First of all, Tokio Marine HCC is not Primary coverage which would pay FIRST before any other collectible insurance. It is Secondary coverage that would reimburse you only after any other Primary collectible insurance has paid the claim and the Primary policies' limits have been exhausted. There is also a Pre-existing Condition exclusion with a 2 year look back period that must be reviewed before Tokio Marine HCC would pay their share of your claim.
We regret that you were disappointed in the handling of your claim. However, it is important that travelers understand that along with the coverage that your travel medical plan provides, there are also limitations which may be reviewed prior to purchasing your policy.
InsureMyTrip is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and our customer care representatives are licensed insurance agents who are able to recommend the most cost effective plans which will cover the travelers primary concerns. If you would like to receive assistance in obtaining a quote or purchasing a policy, please call us at 800-487-4722 as we would be happy to assist you.
This plan was inexpensive and easy to set up. My husband severely fractured his wrist in Mexico, and it has cost us almost $30,000 in surgeries ($24000 in Mexico and $5000 since returning). HCC has already paid all of the expenses that were not covered by our primary insurance since returning, and has promised to pay anything that our primary insurance does not pay from Mexico (if/when they decide). Jennifer, our case manager, has been fantastic.

Avoid this plan if you really want to be "insured". I was stuck in a foreign country, since my toddler fell sick (virus that causes breathing difficulty) prior to the return trip. Tokio Marine refused to pay the medical bill and the replacement ticket. The claims website is very obfuscating and pretty hard to figure out how it works. Go with a different company.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to learn about child's illness. Upon speaking with the insurance provider it appears the medical claim was paid, subject to the deductible selected on the policy. In terms of the trip interruption claim, it appears the reason for interrupting the trip, although serious, was not related to a listed covered reason, per the certificate. You do have the right to appeal the claim, and the link to proceed with the appeal was provided by the insurance provider. In the future we encourage you, and all customers, to call us prior to purchasing the insurance and we can assist you with purchasing a policy based on your primary concerns. To speak with one of our licensed representatives, please call us at 800-487-4722. We are open 7am to Midnight EST Monday through Friday and 9am to 9pm EST Saturday and Sunday.
Absolutely a waste of money. My husband almost died on our trip and the insurance was a big fat FAILURE. Support and customer service was completely lacking. Don't waste your time or money. Did not pay for ANYTHING, but kept interfering with his care. Even denied the coverage for hotel room to be at his bed side.....clearly spelled out in the policy. What a complete waste.

After advising the insurance provider on this review, Tokio Marine HCC (TMHCCMIS) contacted the insured. One of the insureds had a medical emergency for which TMHCCMIS paid the air ambulance bill. However, in order to determine if the medical bills were covered under the policy, TMHCCMIS needed additional information from the insured, so they reached out directly to the insured to obtain this information.
We also received the following update from the insured:
"Just to follow up on previous complaint about the insurance I purchased. I realize you are the broker and not the actual insurer.
But finally after 7 months they have reviewed my case and agreed it was handled wrong. They will be reimbursing me for the portion they denied earlier for cost to be at bed side. They agree that they will pay the cost of the onboard medical (they just need a copy of my insurance denial), and will reimburse me for my out of pocket medical expenses for 2018 and 2019.
Although I am grateful for that at a time when my husband was literally hanging to life and supported 100% on mechanical life support and now on heart transplant list is not when you want to fight these battles.
At least the company is using my situation for training on how to manage and what they do for such extreme cases as ours."
Thank you for your continued feedback. Although we are pleased to hear that HCC has paid your claim, we regret to hear that you had so many issues with this claim while going through such a critical time. We wish you and your husband best wishes for the new year.
Claims submission is not intuitive or well explained on the site. I also received no confirmation email of submission, and had no idea if it went through correctly or not. There needs to be a clearer explanation of the process and precisely what documentation is needed, and what to expect next. I felt like I was winging it.

Thank you very much for your accurate comments on filing a claim. The process is not intuitive. Although we include a section on our website for "Travel Insurance Policy & Claims Information", InsureMyTrip presents generalized and not company specific information.
Travelers should always refer to their Certificate of Insurance for specific details on filing a claim. Your Tokio Marine HCC claim information started on page 5 of your Certificate of Insurance where they provided you with the steps in the process along with a list of required documents.
Unfortunately most claims departments do not provide you with a confirmation of receipt. Instead the providers refer claimants to their website where you can freely access necessary forms and your claim status. However, you will be pleased to hear that providers are listening to their policyholders' concerns as guidance to improving the claims process. Providers recognize that the process needs improvement and take your suggestions seriously.
In addition, please always remember InsureMyTrip's promise of "Unparalleled Customer Service":
"The caring, licensed travel insurance representatives at InsureMyTrip are open and honest with every traveler, because our non-commissioned representatives work to find the best plan for you. Our Anytime Advocates® will support you with the process if you feel a claim has been unfairly denied."
We look forward to hearing from you in the future.
