I really can’t make a true review, because we have yet to have an opportunity to use it. However, we have gotten an email from the car rental company stating there was a large scratch on the back bumper. We never saw that, never noticed it, and have no idea if it was there when we got the car. So, is AIG going to cover that damage if we are charged with it?

Of course I did not need to use it during my days in Germany, Austria and Italy.
I would have wondered, if I had had to use it, what the process would be in using your coverage. Would you contact the provider and pay him or would I pay him and then you reimburse me upon my return to America. Would there be any discussions between you and me in this process? I have learned from experience that reimbursement is not an easy issue to file.

Thank you for your review. Travel insurance is reimbursement based. You are expected to pay for expenses up front and be reimbursed for a covered claim. An insurance provider may be able to advance payment for you, but that would be determined at the time of an event and on a case by case basis. We always suggest that if something happens you should contact the 24 Hour Assistance center directly, and advise of the situation. From there they can help you determine how payment would be handled and how to pursue the situation. As with any insurance, this policy covered the "what if" situations. As expected, we did not have any problems or file any claims. Nowadays, as I am getting older, I see this type of coverage as necessary, just like our MedJet Assist policy.

We were in a runaway horse and carriage accident, across a busy road and into a building. Fortunately no one was hurt, but I was thinking at the time how I was glad I bought the medical insurance!

It was quite comforting to know that we were covered if something should go wrong. As it turned out, we did not need to take advantage of the insurance, but it came close a couple of times. Traveling is fun, but sometimes stressful. It was nice to not be stressed about things like trip interruption and missed connections.
