I purchased this insurance for a 28 day Transatlantic/Baltic cruise on Holland America cruise line. I purchased it about two weeks before the final cruise payment was due and paid the premium for the price of cruise. When I paid the final payment, the cruise line had dropped the final payment amount due. I contacted your representative about a reduction in the insurance coverage and was informed no adjustments are allowed only if the cruise cost went up would they make an adjustment. It seemed one sided. Then on the cruise, the first port of call was cancelled. The Captain felt the seas were too rough to safely dock the ship. In addition, on our return flight home to Ohio from Copenhagen Denmark we were experinced United's lack of customer respect when we landed in Chicago O'Hare. The flight from Copenhagen to Chicago was on-time and without problem. United continued to delay our connecting flight home and then we boarded the plane at 11:45 PM after almost three hours of delay. The pilot told us we had to get off the ground and waited on the tarmac until 1:20 AM the next day when the pilot announced he was out of time. We returned to terminal and had to wait at Customer Service to get rebooked on another flight at 7:42 AM. No food or hotel vouchers from United Airlines. When we got home we called to file a claim. It is just remarkable how much documentation the claim department required to process our missed port of call and airline delay. I don't understand why they need credit card statements showing you paid for your cruise if you have a final cruise document that shows zero balance and you have proof that you took the cruise by providing your final on-board statement. Nationwide did not pay the amount for miss port of call but a lower inconvenience benefit. Likewise, Nationwide did not pay the full amount for flight delay of more than 6 hours but only our actual out of pocket cost (coffee and scones) that we incurred at 5 AM when Starbucks opened. I would shop for other insurance providers next time as well as look at other companies than Insure my Trip for vacation protection coverage. It should not be burdensome to file a claim.

    "As with other insurance, we do require proof of loss. While it may seem that we request an excess of documentation, the requested information all establishes the proof of loss. If we can establish the loss without all of the documentation submitted, we oftentimes forego requesting additional information. However, in cases where we do not receive all of the necessary information with the initial claim package and cannot make a claim determination, we will request additional information from the members. In this instance, the members were very good about providing the information necessary to process the claim and we were able to get their payments sent within 2 days of receipt."

We had to cancel our trip a month out due to a serious fall on my behalf. This caused a post concussion. Cruising with a concussion is not recommended! The process from start to check in hand took about 5 weeks. I had to mail in my forms because I could not upload the docs from home, which most likely caused a delay in the processing.

All in all the process was fairly easy. I was required to send in a lot of documentation, so KEEP EVERYTHING!!

The end result was we were paid back what the cruise line charged us as a penalty.

I filed a small medical claim and it was processed and paid promptly, A great benefit of this plan is that it does not have to be purchased until final payment to cover pre-existing conditions.

I got the insurance mainly for the medical due to covering pre-existing conditions waiver. It also included compensation if the cruise line changed ports and I still went on the cruise. Cruise line changed the itinerary six months out, which happened just two weeks after I purchased the insurance. Contacted Nationwide to initiate claim, they promptly sent a form to fill out once the cruise was completed. The day I got off the ship, I sent the requested paperwork by email and I received a printed check two weeks later in the mail for the changed port compensation. I was very happy with the quick prompt service without any hassles.

Check other policies. My cell phone went missing day 1 of our cruise and was never turned in. I was told to do a formal report to file with my travel insurance. I called to file a claim under the baggage portion of the policy and was told that cell phones were specifically excluded. I would think it would be considered a "personal item" and still can't find anything in writing on the policy details I was sent regarding exclusions. I obviously made a wrong choice on this policy. Disappointed. My cell phone locator finally went off a day after I returned home showing it was turned on in a port stop. I now believe a crew member had stolen my phone.

I actually appreciate the opportunity to make this review because we are still pleasantly surprised at the wonderful service and prompt coverage of our claim. We booked this insurance 18 months ahead of our travel, and as one part of our travel changed, it was the Nationwide Company representative herself that made us aware that there was coverage for that change. They then provided clear and explicit instructions for forms and how to submit them and then we received our check in less than 10 days.
We can only think that if we had had a true emergency or other difficulty, Nationwide's assistance and claim response would have been equally quick. Based on our interactions with the representatives and fast claim coverage, we highly recommend this company and will definitely look for travel insurance with them again!
