I purchased a policy through Insure My Trip with Nationwide Mutual for cruise and flight coverage. I had to file a claim in September due to the fact that my cruise was canceled by the supplier due to staffing and supply chain issues as this was a brand new ship.
I contacted them to inform them that the cruise line had canceled my cruise and I needed to know the steps to take to file a claim. I was instructed to provide the cancellation letter from the cruise line plus provide the flight information. I informed them that I had not canceled the flight yet because I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to and I was told to do so and send over all of the information to the claims department. I waited patiently for several only to be told that there was a submission error so resubmitted everything for a second time, the first week of October.
On Oct. 20, 2023, my claim was denied stating that the reason for cancellation was not covered. How is that possible when the cruise line canceled my cruise. I resubmitted an appeal the same day only to now be told, on Nov. 7th that my claim is still denied even though I submitted everything and didn’t cancel my trip due to my own personal reasons. They claim that I’m not entitled for compensation. I only filed a claim for the flight and yet I can’t get reimbursed even though the claims department told me to cancel the flight.
I feel as though this is a trick to keep them from paying on claims. I’ve reported them to the insurance board of my state because this isn’t fair. I don’t recommend this insurance company at all.

Was not able to get refunded because I had to purchase my insurance the same time I purchased my trip which was NOT clearly stated. Very disappointed with Nationwide and will NEVER recommend to anyone.

Thank you for your feedback. Although we regret that your claim to cancel your trip because you had to work was denied, your Nationwide Mutual Choice Cruise plan does explain that this Trip Cancellation benefit only reimburses you if your cancel for work reasons if this coverage was purchased within final payment for the Trip. Your documentation showed that payment for the Trip was on January 30th, 2019 and our records indicate that the policy was purchased after that date on February 25th, 2019. Regrettably, your claim does not qualify for reimbursement if you cancel for work reasons.
Wow, an honest insurance company - don't hear about that too often. I called to ask what would happen if our cruise ended up being a "cruise to nowhere" after the 2017 hurricanes. It was then that I learned our policy had an itinerary change benefit. I was advised to file the claim upon returning as they needed proof that we actually took the cruise.
In the middle of filling out the paperwork, I called Nationwide with a question and learned that my benefit was actually double what I thought! Wow. Claim documentation requirements were straightforward, no "gotchas". Claim paid in about 2 weeks. Would absolutely recommend this company again.

I filed a small medical claim and it was processed and paid promptly, A great benefit of this plan is that it does not have to be purchased until final payment to cover pre-existing conditions.
