John Hancock may be an adequate travel insurer but its claims administrator, Sedgwick, caused me never to purchase any type of John Hancock insurance coverage. Nineteen days before scheduled departure for a France guided tour, I had been hospitalized the second time in as many weeks for bronchitis. The second time was also for sinusitis and the new strain of Covid. CT/MRI scans of the sinuses also revealed that I had incurred a minor stroke. Because of the recurring respiratory infections and need for a cardiology referral, the hospital physician signed a statement medically advising to cancel the upcoming trip scheduled for August 20--September 6. Sedgwick rejected the letter for lack of "required documentation" but would not specify what was required. Four times submitting documentation that did not satisfy Sedgwick, I learned it only wanted physician to specify the dates I could not travel. When bronchitis returned for the third time, I showed the physician Sedgwick's email. He retroactively specified the dates I was restricted from travel. I do no recommend John Hancock insurance because of its claims adjuster, Sedgwick. Lesson learned: always confirm if the insurance company also administers claims. Third-party claims adjusters may be paid a bonus for the amount of claims denied. Caveat emptor!

Claims processing is cumbersome. They ask for far more information than they need. I think their goal is to frustrate you into just giving up. I travel to Europe several times a year and always get travel insurance. The is our first and LAST time with John Hancock.

Purchased John Hancock Gold plan for a trip to Croatia. Our flight to Croatia was cancelled. Luckily, we live in the area and were able return home not incurring any hotel fees (trip delay insurance max $200/day per person on the gold plan). We managed to get a flight out the next day. I was able to use the "trip delay" insurance coverage to cover the Lyft back home, to the airport the next day and our first night at the Airbnb which was non-refundable. The process took several months - The policy required that you get a written statement from the airline as to the reason for the delay. I wasted a lot of time on the phone with agents trying to get documentation with no results. Also sent emails to their customer service with no results. Finally, sent a letter (snail mail) to the airline's customer service and they responded with an email with the reason (BINGO!). It's odd, I had proof and documentation that the flight was cancelled - the challenge was getting the documented reason for the cancellation. I'm not sure why a reason also needed to be documented. Nevertheless, for all future trip planning I'm just going to assume that a claim will be filed and will ensure that all documentation any reasons for delays/cancellations and for any purchase is readily available so that I'm not in search of it later if a claim is actually made. I also know to use the mail (not email or the phone) when attempting to get an airline to respond to questions for claims.

My flight was cancelled and no flights were available for this and the following days. I didn't get any refund from airline for the cancelation because it was connected flight. We rented a car and drove 16 hours to get home next day. I filed the claim and got a full refund for car rental and other expenses on the way back. Claim was paid within 2 months. I would use this insurance again.

Paid claim with ZERO hassle. Rough trip - lost Bose headphones between plane and baggage claim. Then arrived at YVR late due to flight delay. Had to take a cab and get a hotel room. Both claims paid with zero hassle. Impressive.

This was my second time buying John Hancock trip insurance via Insuremytrip.com. On our recent vacation in Thailand my girlfriend became ill which required seeing a doctor and modifying our travel arrangements. John Hancock couldn't have been easier to deal with. I spoke to them from Thailand and they immediately started the claims process. When we arrived back in the U.S. I submitted the paperwork via their online portal. At one point they did ask for additional documentation that I didn't realize was required but I completely understood why they needed it to verify the legitimacy of travel change fees. We received the check about a month after we started the claims process. I don't normally write online reviews but I wanted to make sure they receive the credit they deserve. When I purchase trip insurance i have a nagging worry that the company will find a way out of a claim but that absolutely wasn't the case here. I plan to use them again for a cruise this summer.

I was pleased with my trip insurance with John Hancock. I submitted a claim for a delayed flight and they handled my claim in an expedited manner and to my satisfaction. I would use them again and recommend to others.
