Fortunately we did not have to use the insurance for this wonderful trip. However, peace of mind was important in case we needed the coverage. We have previously had a trip planned where we had to use our trip insurance so we always buy it for big trips.

My luggage got lost on the way home but arrived 2 days later. I didn't file a claim but I had peace knowing if anything happened on the trip I'd be covered.
I'll be going to Norway and The Netherlands in July so will be buying coverage again.

I got the insurance because I have parents in their 90's, so if something had happened to them while I was away I would have been able to come back without enduring so much financial loss. Since it was a conference, my work would have made me reimburse them for the trip if I was not able to attend and present at the conference. Fortunately I did not need to collect, as they were fine, but the peace of mind was well worth the cost of insurance.

The plan provided peace of mind for our trip. Being stuck in a foreign country during a personal emergency is something no one wants to experience. Especially without the resources needed to get home safely.

Fortunately we completed our trip without incident and did not need to use the insurance so we cannot rate the plan, but can comment on the high cost. It is a universal challenge. There should be some type of a rebate when you do not make a claim.

    The terms and conditions as well as pricing of travel insurance is regulated by the state insurance commissioner which is a state-level position in all 50 states. The duties of the commissioner vary from state to state, but their general role is as a consumer protection advocate and insurance regulator. There is also a state department of insurance that is responsible for regulating companies and producers selling insurance in to insure that they obey state insurance laws.

    Although travel insurance regulations value from state to state, travel insurance rebates are not currently available in any state.
