Travel Insurance Reviews for HTH Worldwide

I purchased travel medical insurance for two trips to Europe this year for myself and my husband. The price was reasonable and I felt secure knowing I had medical coverage. The policy was clear and while I (thankfully) didn’t need to file a claim I it gave me comfort to see the process appeared the straightforward.

For my policy, would have liked to see an option to increase my auto rental insurance coverage. $35K would only cover sufficiently the smallest of the compacts.

Review based on NOT having to use any of the coverage because my trip was fine and sound. However, I did have peace of mind knowing that I had insurance. Price was good for what I needed.

So glad I didn't have to use the insurance. I took it out as I had a health scare in January. It made my trip so much better knowing I had coverage if needed. As I am a senior, Medicare doesn't cover outside the US. So I needed to have the peace of mind on my trip.

So far, we haven't had to use this, but the first flight on our trip was cancelled/delayed 24 hours and we are still waiting to see if the airline is going to reimburse us. If not, it's nice knowing that we have this coverage. When our flight back looked like it might be cancelled due to weather, we had peace of mind knowing we had purchased this.

I luckily didn't need to use any part of my plan but had piece of mind knowing I could if need be !

Beware the small print!

I thought that since I broke my leg and could not travel, I could claim for trip cancellation. Since I rebooked dates eight weeks later, this apparently was a "postponement" not a "cancellation". So if you can't travel for a covered reason, consider abandoning the trip even if the cost is greater. Note that this is not a specific criticism of HTH, as Insure My Trip advised that other insurers apply the same, in my opinion very dubious interpretation, of the term "cancellation".

If you are hiring a car, you may be covered for Collision Damage Waiver under your credit card - but beware their small print, as coverage is generally limited to rentals of up to 31 days. So if you rely on HTH, note that their CDW clause and exclusions was apparently written some time in the last century by someone who knew nothing about cars. Leaving aside the farcical examples such as Bradley and Yugo in the "exotic cars" exclusion, there are some potentially serious problems. All four-wheel drive vehicles are automatically excluded, which would mean most popular SUV's are not covered. Also Fiat and Citroen, who manufacture predominantly cheap cars you may well encounter at some European Hertz and Avis branches, are bizarrely classified as "exotic vehicles" and thus not covered. Naturally in the unlikely event that you did rent a true exotic that commenced production in this century, such as McLaren, Koenigsegg or Tesla, these would apparently be covered.

Happily, we did not need to use the plan, but it was very comforting to know it was there in case of any emergency that may have arisen and to know we would have been covered. Thank you !!!!

I purchased the plan for my daughter's 10 day visit to London, Ireland, and Scotland. Thankfully, she did not have to use the plan. She had some near misses with flights and luggage which I knew the plan would cover if needed. .Most of all, I knew she would have the resources to evacuate in the event of a terrorist attack. The plan gave me great peace of mind for a very reasonable price.
