The plan covered my trip and paid when I had to cancel. Communication with the company was difficult. I used their online form to start the claim but then the site would never allow me to upload neccessary documents. When I asked for help with this I got no response. I had to attach and email everything and this was cumbersome. Several times I was told they needed the information again, sometimes as often as three times, which required more emails. I got the distinct impression they were trying to wear me down. However, eventually they did pay the claim. I was also surprised to find that they outsourced the claim to a third party. I did not deal with them directly.

I originally insured my trip right after I booked it. I was under the impression I insured the trip for me and my wife for the total cost for both of us. 10 days prior to the trip I realized my wife was not insured and I was insured for twice the amount of my portion of the trip. I was not allowed to modify my policy to the actual amount and was compelled to cancel and reinsure for half the original amount and as expected, purchase a new policy for my wife. In total, we got less coverage for a bunch more money. I didn't have this problem on previous trips using another company. I'll go back to the other company for our future trips.

I bought the insurance when I made my first down-payment toward a 3-week trip to Ireland and Scotland, so it was expensive. Well in advance of the trip, the Ireland half was cancelled. I notified them immediately, expecting the premium to be reduced accordingly. Nope. Not a bit. I had no idea that was their policy. No doubt if I had increased the trip costs later they'd have charged me more! I followed their rules and got shafted. Not happy, would not recommend them again.

The purpose of trip insurance is to provide peace of mind; we all hope to never use it. I purchased my policy six months before the trip, paying extra for Cancel for Any Reason and am glad I had it and never used it. I was reassuring to have this coverage with the Covid virus still an issue in some places.
