Thankfully we had no issues and did not need to use the plan. I gave the middle score (3 stars) because you can't judge the coverage or value of a plan until you need to file a claim.

Be sure you understand the difference between Trip DELAY and Trip INTERRUPTION from the Insurer's point of view. It's a difference of a maximum benefit of your trip cost (Interruption) and a maximum of $150 daily (Delay). I still don't understand it.
I was Quarantined in Switzerland during my 2-week trip after testing positive for COVID and was unable to return home as scheduled. I would consider this an Interruption of my trip. Nationwide called it a Delay. As such, I was reimbursed only $450 of my $850 costs for the 2-day interruption. Thankfully it wasn't any longer as the cheapest lodging I could find was $260 nightly.
In addition, after spending 4 hours gathering the plethora of documents and receipts required and mailing it (trying to file multiple documents online was impossible), my claim was delayed for 3 months due to a backlog. I had to call multiple times to get the status of my claim. When my reimbursement finally did arrive, it was short $150 (they misread my claim and only paid for 2 days instead of 3), necessitating another call from me and a wait for final payment.
I think they're reasonably priced if all you're looking for is a trip cancellation in case you get hit by a bus before your trip and can't go, but otherwise I'd look elsewhere.

Although we thankfully didn’t have to file a claim, the peace of mind was worth every penny. The customer service rep was great at explaining the coverage. Will use this service again!

We were very disappointed in Nationwide Insurance and this product. Our Summer 2020 European trip was cancelled in April 2020 due to the global pandemic. We contacted Nationwide immediately and they recommended that we pursue reimbursement from the travel providers then file a claim for any unrecoverable funds. We trusted that they were guiding us properly and followed their advice. We did indeed have unrecoverable funds and filed for reimbursement immediately after our last refund in Dec 2020. Nationwide denied our claim stating that the global pandemic was not a covered peril. Why was my policy not cancelled and my premium refunded when my trip was cancelled? Why did the Nationwide representative lead me on to believe that we were covered when I contacted them in April? If a global pandemic with travel shutdown all over the world is not covered, why buy insurance? At this point, I would not recommend using Nationwide and I'm not sure about purchasing travel insurance anymore. It looks like there is a very narrow window for reimbursement and obviously the insurer's intent is to deny most of the claims. My experience has been that the travel providers have been focused on taking care of their customers and the insurance company is finding ways to say no. Why buy insurance?

We are sorry to hear that you were unable to travel. Upon learning that your claim was deemed unpayable, we reached out to you about Nationwide making an exception to cancel the policy for a refund of premium or transferring this policy to a future trip. Nationwide requires additional information from you in order to determine if you meet the guidelines for a successful exception. Please call us at 800-487-4722 or email us at [email protected] for further information.
Years ago when we traveled, we never purchased trip insurance, and we never regretted not doing so. However, as our parents have gotten older, we have purchased trip insurance for the last several trips with them, and by ourselves, just in case something happened and we were not able to go on the trip or needed to come home earlier than planned. Once again, we were happy to not need the insurance! If we had needed it, though, it would have helped limit the financial loss caused by a late trip cancellation or flight changes.

Prior to the trip, I called with questions before I purchased, then called with questions AFTER I purchased. Everyone was accommodating and helpful. I did not need to file a claim...the trip was perfect, but having this coverage provided me with peace of mind.

Although we also insure with insuremytrip when we travel abroad, we have never had a claim. In that regard, we have no basis to evaluate the quality and efficiency of the service.
That said, the process of obtaining cover is always quick and efficient thanks to courteous, knowledgeable staff.
Prices seem reasonable for the cover we get.
