HCC website is like a labyrint, old-fashioned like back in the nineties. Submitting a claim is a pain in the a** and they take the "reasonable" time of one month to process it, not to say that you need to send a separate form to receive a wire transfer instead of a check. Hey, if you didn't notice, we're in year 2017.... please do something about it. Definitely I will never use their service again. I'm a traveller and I need fast and easy process, not to make several international phone call and receive a different answer every time.
Update 17/9/17
Insuremytrip replied to my comment offering support. After more than one month with not even an reply from HCC, I wrote to Insuremytrip's support. Do you think someone came back to me?

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry that you were dissatisfied with your claim experience. We do want you and your fellow customers to be aware that InsureMyTrip offers a Customer Advocate Program. Customer Advocates are representatives assigned to assist customers who experience issues after filing a claim. Requesting a Customer Advocate is as simple as calling 800-487-4722 or emailing [email protected], explaining the events which resulted in a claim, and the challenges you are facing.
Honestly, I did want to use this plan at one point early on. I was at the gym and pretty sure I broke my pinky finger. But when I tried to call to check in before going to the hospital, the automated system said I would have to wait 20 mins on hold! I tried calling the next day and 15 mins. So I figured all they will do at the hospital anyways is xray it and that's it. So I ended up not going to the hospital. And wasting my money on this policy.

I've been using HCC for years. In August I finally had an accident that required a 3-day hospital visit. I had to pay out of pocket almost $3,000 and its now 60 days after my accident and I have not been reimbursed. The company has given me no updates or time frame for this. My accident and treatment were very standard and clearly fall within the guidelines of coverage. It shouldn't take an underwriter more than an hour to see this and approve it.
I can no longer recommend HCC - they are the cheapest so I guess you get what you pay for. I will pay more in the future for a more responsive plan. As a Yoga Teacher, $3000 is a lot of money which I needed to borrow- I thought the entire point of insurance was to be covered when you have an accident....
I am frustrated that people give them such high reviews. Reviews from people who did not file claims aren't an accurate assessment of the company.
UPDATE: As of 11/29 I have not been reimbursed. I was told that my claim was closed because I did send a from that my hospital sent to them on the day of my accident. The front-line reps are very uninformed- many contradicting each other. The last guy told me it was a bad idea to pay my claim myself (I had to to get my passport back from the hospital), which was exactly the advice I received from HCC several months ago.
When an InsureMyTrip rep contacted them directly it was discovered that 2 pieces of paper were 'stuck' together and they would reopen my claim. Very unprofessional.
UPDATE Feb 2 2016
I finally received my claim check. I was reimbursed for the total amount of my claim, minus a deductible and small fee for the exchange rate.
I'm happy about this, however still unhappy about the 5 months it took to be paid. The company sent 4 checks to me that never arrived and after a number of phone calls they finally UPS'd one to me. How can 4 checks get lost in the mail?
Anyway, look elsewhere. I'm currently using IMG Global as they were very responsive to my questions about their policy, however I have not had to file a claim yet.

I would have preferred a notice that my HCC Medical Insurance Services plan was about to expire. I even asked for a reminder and was told that I would be reminded... but never was.

Thank you for letting us know that you never received your renewal notice from HCC Medical Insurance. The company does automatically send emails notifying their Insureds of their upcoming expirations. HCC did confirm that the notice was sent to your email used to purchase the policy. Unfortunately the notice must have been misdirected to a spam or junk mail folder. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused and hope that you will continue to purchase from us in the future.
As a former health and life insurance broker for 10 years I knew what types of travel plans to look at when I chose to quit my job and travel. I have purchased various travel plans over the years and since I quit to travel nearly consistently 3+years ago I continue to go back to the top carriers that I am familiar with. Each year I either purchase HCC or IMG since I know they are strong, reputable companies that PAY THEIR CLAIMS. As an agent I spoke to many happy clients that not only purchased travel coverage from these companies but also had to use them. Although medical care is drastically cheaper in countries outside of the US, I still chose to purchase a 1 million benefit and just raise the deductible ($500-1k) to lower the cost as I would recommend for anyone that is more concerned with asset protection. This year I have some diving and climbing plans so I chose HCC since my plans fit within their Exclusions and Limitations and I did not need to spend the extra for the Adventure/Sports rider with IMG.
